Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a free program for women having their first baby. A registered nurse visits in the home of the first-time mom throughout pregnancy and continues until the baby is 2 years old. Women are encouraged to enroll as early in pregnancy as possible.

The nurse helps each mom:

  • Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
  • Build a strong network of support for her and her child.
  • Make her home a safe place for her baby to live and play.
  • Get referrals for healthcare, childcare, job training, and other support services.
  • Find ways to continue her education and develop job skills.
  • Set goals for her family’s future and also help her meet those goals.
  • Be the best mother she can be.

Usually, the nurse visits every week or two from pregnancy until the baby’s 2nd birthday. The mother and the nurse can decide the exact schedule. Each visit lasts about 60-90 minutes.

Program Eligibility: Any woman who:

  • Is pregnant with her first child.
  • Lives in Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, or Chambers counties.
  • Would qualify for Medicaid or WIC.
