First Light is a Center for Homeless Women and Children located in the heart of downtown Birmingham. It offers the only emergency shelter accepting homeless women and families 24 hours a day in the area. In addition, First Light also offers a permanent housing program.

Hope Harbor accomplishes provides services to families experiencing homelessness. They help meet their needs for safe shelter, meals, and supportive case management with a goal of obtaining permanent housing and becoming self-sufficient.

How It Works: Find a Safe Place Site(Designated with a yellow ‘Safe Place’ sign), and ask for help (See right for a general list –OR– Text SAFE to 69866.). Stepping Stones provides homeless women and women with children with shelter for up to nine months while offering supportive services designed to assist them in achieving permanent housing and economic stability. Basic needs such as food, clothing, personal care items, and diapers are provided. Time-specific goals, related to achieving housing stability, are established by guests with assistance from the program

The LightHouse Women’s Center educates, supports, and empowers women and couples facing unplanned pregnancies with compassionate and professional medical care. If you think you may be pregnant or you are considering abortion, they are there to help!
