Maryland Safe Haven Laws. In Maryland, any person who leaves an unharmed newborn not more than 10 days old with a responsible adult, police station, or hospital with intent not to return for the child shall be immune from civil liability or criminal prosecution.

In Maine, a person may voluntarily deliver his baby not more than 31 days old to any safe haven provider with intent not to take back the newborn. A Safe Haven location refers to a hospital, emergency room, law enforcement agency, medical service provider, and a fire station.

In Louisiana, Safe Haven laws permit parents to leave their infant not more than 30 days old and not subject to any child abuse or neglect, in the care of any employee of a designated emergency care facility, including a hospital, police department, fire station, AMS provider, medical facility, child advocacy center, public health unit, or a pregnancy crisis center.

This law allows any parent who leaves a newborn infant not older than 72 hours with an emergency medical services provider, police station, fire station, or hospital with intent not to return for the infant shall have the right to remain anonymous and not be followed. 

According to the Act, a parent or other person having lawful custody of an infant may surrender physical custody of an infant not older than 45 days to any employee who is on duty at a fire station, city or county health department, or medical care facility.  Additionally, the Act requires that the infant must not be subject to any

The Iowa Safe Haven Law enables a person to give up an unwanted infant, 14 days or younger, anonymously without fear of arrest or prosecution, to any medical facility, hospital, or emergency room. The Indiana Safe Haven Law enables a person to give up an unwanted infant, 45 days or younger, anonymously without fear of arrest or prosecution at any EMS provider, hospital, or fire station. As long as there are no signs of intentional abuse on the baby, no information is required of the person leaving the baby.

The law allows a parent to relinquish an unharmed infant 30 days or younger, legally, safely, and anonymously with no fear of prosecution or questions asked, to personnel at a hospital, emergency medical facility, fire or police station.

According to the Act, custodial parents may abandon their unwanted newborns not older than 30 days without fear of prosecution at any hospital, clinic, EMS provider, and emergency room.

Safe haven laws permit any person to surrender a newborn not older than 72 hours at any hospital, fire station, police station, or with any emergency services personnel without fear of prosecution. The newborn must be in an unharmed condition while surrendering it.
