Campus Resources & Support

Student Success Program: The Student Success Team is a group of caring and committed faculty and staff members who strive to support Whitworth students by reaching out when a student needs support and connecting them to resources.

Basic Needs Assistance: Whitworth’s Help-a-Pirate Program exists to assist students through one-time interventions of support when an urgent need arises. We have four primary methods for meeting some of the needs that may arise for students: meal assistance, textbook lending, technology support, and financial hardship assistance.

  • Food Pantries located across campus:
    • Sociology Department in Lindaman Center: The food bank is located on the first floor in Room 201. Students can walk in and grab food items between 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Please contact Robert Francis ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
    • Psychology Department in Dixon Hall: The food bank is located in the main floor lounge. Contact Amy Morrison ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
    • English Department in Westminster Hall: The food bank is located in Room 138. It’s available weekdays from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (without student card) and until 10 p.m. with student cards. It can be accessed on weekends from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with student cards. Contact Nicole Sheets ([email protected]) if you have questions.
  • PRO Clothing Closet: PRO Closet provides Whitworth students with gift cards to select department stores to purchase proper and professional clothing attire needed for an interview or first job. We want our students to feel confident and prepared for their first professional experience. In addition to having the ability to purchase professional clothing items and look and feel their best as they enter the professional world, students can receive individualized coaching from one of our career services representatives. All current Whitworth students may apply for PRO Closet funding, regardless of class or major. Priority may be given to students who have a career-related obligation or junior and senior class standing, depending on resource availability. Please email Tracy Mouser, director of the Whitworth Center for Career & Professional Development, at [email protected] for additional details.
  • Career Closet: The Teacher Education Department Resource Center offers student support with professional clothing and winter-appropriate clothing. If you are doing an internship or other fieldwork that has a dress code or find yourself in need of warmer clothing as winter comes charging in, feel free to reach out, and we can see if we have a size that would work for you. Clothing is donated so we do not have all sizes available at all times. The center opens by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, email Lisa Laurier at [email protected].

Health Center: Pregnancy tests, well-woman exams, and community referrals are available. Free transportation is available for non-emergency community referrals with the Pirate Health Ride Program | Whitworth University, and has a low-cost convenience store for non-emergent health needs at the Self-Care Store | Whitworth University.

Counseling Center: All full-time matriculated day students, Whitworth Online students, and master’s and doctoral students are eligible to receive counseling services.

Campus Housing: Whitworth offers a variety of non-traditional and off-campus housing options.

Campus Policies & Accommodations

Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex, including pregnancy and sex-based harassment, in employment, educational programs, and activities. This includes harassment and discrimination against a student based on pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, or lactation, as well as any related medical conditions or related recovery.

Whitworth University will provide reasonable accommodations due to pregnancy and/or related conditions. The University will allow access, voluntarily, to any separate and comparable portion of a program or activity. Whitworth University will also allow a voluntary leave of absence, ensure the availability of lactation space, and maintain grievance procedures to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints of sex discrimination.

For information regarding pregnancy or related conditions leave or to request an accommodation related to pregnancy, please contact the Title IX Director:

Fantei Rainbolt, Director of Title IX & Student Conduct

Phone: 509-777-3748

Whitworth University works with each student to provide educational adjustments or accommodations that best meet their needs. The following are examples of some of those supports:

  • Breaks during class, as needed
  • Excused absences or a leave of absence
  • Makeup missed assignments or assessments
  • Additional time to complete assignments in the same manner as the institution allows for a
student with a temporary medical condition
  • Access to instructional materials and video recordings of lectures for classes for which the
student has an excused absence under this section to the same extent that instructional
materials and video recordings of lectures are made available to any other student with an
    excused absence
  • Access to lactation rooms on campus
  • Additional supports due to a disability such as a notetaker for carpal tunnel, an alternate chair,
or permitting the use of a heated pad for lumbar lordosis (back pain)
