Standing With You applauds the passing of the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act in the United States House. This bill was recently introduced by Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), and it encapsulates the spirit of Standing With You by working towards a more supportive atmosphere on campus for pregnant and parenting students.

Kristan Hawkins, President of Standing With You, expressed the commitment of the Pro-Life Generation to stand by the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act as the support it promises is extremely important to our mission.

“Women balancing school, pregnancy, and family deserve our support. Yet ironically too few students know about Title IX, the law that is supposed to protect their rights.” said Hawkins. “This effort will require schools to communicate protections in place and commit to helping such pregnant and parenting students succeed on campus.”

This bill aligns perfectly with the goals of Standing With You as we work to provide a wealth of resources for pregnant and parenting women, including information on Title IX rights and requirements.

Title IX is a vital tool for protecting individuals striving to support their families while getting an education.  One such example is Ruth Asmarzadeh, who faced Title IX violations as a college student in Colorado when she unexpectedly became pregnant. Ruth’s school failed to accommodate her situation, leading to academic challenges and loss of financial aid.

Fortunately, Standing With You intervened to advocate for Ruth and successfully reinstated her financial aid. Moreover, Standing With You awarded Ruth a scholarship to assist her in completing her education. As a result, she not only finished her education but also secured a position in her field, all while raising her son. To read more about Ruth at Fox News, click here.

The Pregnant Students Rights Act passed the Rules Committee Thursday, Jan. 18th, and it is now on its way to the U.S. Senate. We express our gratitude to Rep. Hinson (R-IA-2) for her leadership in championing this important bill.
