At Standing With You, we believe that no student should have to choose between their education and their child. Across the country, students are stepping up to make their campuses more welcoming, supportive, and accommodating for pregnant and parenting students, and the impact is real.
This year, we’re working with 45 student leaders who are actively advocating for policy changes and accommodations on their campuses. From maternity parking spaces to updated lactation rooms, these efforts are transforming campus culture and ensuring that life-affirming choices are met with compassion and support.
Here are just a few of the inspiring leaders making a difference:
Mataya Watson – Holy Cross College, IN
Initiative: Maternity Parking Spaces
“I know the work I’m doing is only a small part in the greater fight for Life, but I know this work has purpose. When I see a baby smile that would otherwise not be here or the laughter of a mom that conquered her fear, I know it is all worth it.”
Lily Redburn – Arkansas State University, AR
Initiative: School Awareness Campaign & Baby Item Drive
“We are running an item drive in our local churches for new and used baby and maternity items. We have also hung up over 65 flyers on campus with local pregnancy resources and Standing With You info. I am also working on getting pregnancy resources listed on our school website. This is crucial to showing pregnant and parenting students we are here to support them! As an expecting mom and student myself, I recognize just how important this work is!”
Maria Queen – Stetson University, FL
Initiative: Updating Lactation Rooms
“Hatters for Life is working to make lactation rooms more accessible, welcoming, and supportive for nursing students on the Stetson campus. To us, these spaces are a reminder that care and belonging matter. No woman should have to choose between her education and taking care of her child.”
Delainey Neal – Dallas Baptist University, TX
Initiative: Resource Awareness Campaign & Health Center Updates
“I am currently working on two issues on my campus! The first is to get a full, updated list of pregnancy resources into our Health Services office and on their website. The second is to make known that there is university help available to those in these unplanned pregnancy situations. The student body is not currently aware that this type of culture and flexibility is possible, so I am working on ways to inform the students about what’s available to them!”
Georgia Apple – Butler University, IN
Initiative: Revamping Pregnancy & Parenting Accommodations on Website
“Women should have the choice to keep their babies, which is often discouraged for college-aged young women. Butler University’s Title IX office should put their words into action, and I hope to encourage this to see the women on our campus get the support that they need for them and their babies.”
These students are leading the way, and we want to help even more campuses become places where pregnant and parenting students are seen, supported, and celebrated.
