Students for Life at ISU

ISU Students for Life works to bring awareness to pregnancy resources and provide support to pregnant and parenting students. They help coordinate with departments on campus to advocate for resources, rights, and accommodations, and help meet any material needs parents might have.

Student Health Center: Thielen Health Center, 2647 Union Drive

Pregnant & Parenting Resource Pantry: The pantry contains a variety of FREE items parents need on a regular basis, such as diapers, wipes, hygiene products, baby food, children’s clothing, etc

Food Pantry: 1306 Beyer Hall; Hours Tuesday 12-5, Wednesday 1-7, Friday 11-3

Family-friendly Study Room: Located in the lower level of Parks Library, the Family-Friendly Room offers a study space for ISU students with children.

Financial Assistance & Scholarships

• Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) Program: provides financial assistance for child care to eligible parenting students who are enrolled full-time and receiving or eligible for a Federal Pell Grant. The program covers up to 100% of monthly child care tuition at participating centers, with students responsible for a copay equal to 7% of their household income. Ongoing assistance is contingent on continued eligibility, academic progress, and funding availability.
• Childcare Assistance Program (CAP) Scholarship: provides reimbursement scholarships for child care expenses to eligible parenting students. There are two types of scholarships: CAP-U for undergraduate students and CAP-G for graduate, professional, and international undergraduate students. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and academic progress, and recipients must pay for child care services before claiming their scholarship.
• Cost of Attendance Adjustment for Child Care Expenses: federal financial aid regulations allow universities to include an allowance for dependent child care expenses in the student’s cost of attendance. This may increase your student loan eligibility by allowing you to borrow an additional amount in federal subsidized, unsubsidized, or graduate PLUS student loans. 
• Bridge Funding: provides short-term funding for up to 12 continuous weeks of paid leave for all graduate assistants, predoctoral scholars, and postdoctoral scholars who will be adding a new child to their family through birth or adoption. Leaves may begin during pregnancy, before adoption, or after the arrival of the child.

Campus Policies & Accommodations

Iowa State is committed to providing access to its programs and classrooms to all students based on pregnancy or related conditions consistent with its obligations under Title IX and State of Iowa law, which prohibit discrimination based on pregnancy or related conditions. The University provides students with reasonable accommodations in accordance with these laws. Iowa State University will not require a student to take a leave of absence, withdraw from a program, or limit participation in academic activities solely due to pregnancy, childbirth, or a pregnancy related condition. ISU will make reasonable accommodations to allow pregnant students or those who have recently given birth to complete their courses or research activities. Information regarding this policy will be prominently posted on campus, including on University websites and at Thielen Student Health Center to ensure students are informed of their rights.
